Fill 2/3 of the Wall Space
When placing art above furniture such as sofas, chair groupings or console tables, "eyeball" the amount of space between the furniture and the ceiling, then allocate 2/3's of that space for pictures.

How High to Hang
Hanging a print too high above a piece of furniture can leave both pieces feeling disconnected. A good guideline is 5-9 inches above the furniture.

Spacing Art
When hanging a print above a sofa, remember to leave arm space above the sofa back. A quick trick: lay your arm flat against the back of the sofa and roll up once to get a good "clearance" measure.
Hanging Pictures at Eye Level"Eye level" is often defined as art center aligned at 58" from the floor. While this is a good guideline for larger pieces, it can leave smaller pieces stranded on a wall.
It is perfectly acceptable to hang a print at seated eye level, so that the seated person can enjoy the view! Examples include dressing areas, powder rooms, cozy reading nooks, home offices and breakfast bars.
Pictures & Oversized FurnitureOversized furniture calls for robust art prints to strike a balance. For visual weight, consider a grouping of 2 or 3 prints that carry strong visual weight through color or a wider molding and mat combination.
